Why four mallets?
I have been a percussionist for 5 years, and it feels like everyday my music is advancing. But I want to push myself even harder and learn the skill that I know will challenge me, but stretch me to be a better musician. My goal is to work up the experience to master this skill, I would like to be able to play complex music with four mallets. I will be auditioning for the Appalachian Cannon Music Camp this summer, and would like to perform a four mallet piece. My inspiration comes from the former student director last year. His name was Mr. Brittain, he taught me alot about percussion as well as furthering my music. His teachings inspired me to want to expand my skills in music.
In the amount of 12 weeks I will challenge myself to master this skill and to be able to play complex music. My band director Mr. Jimeson will be there to help with my music part of the project. He will help with rhythms, theory, and musicality. My friend, and current percussionist with me, Jacob Juarez, is there to help with the skill and technique of it. I will be applying this skill to my music in class everyday. This will further my skills as a percussionist and be a challenge because it works on your coordination, skills as a musician, muscle memory, and my ability to multitask.
Over all the project will be successful if I can play a four mallet piece with the skill sets learned in the past weeks. My success will be shown with the songs performed in the middle and at the end of this project. Others will see my progress if my playing sounds good to them. Each week will be a new piece building up to master the skill.
